A rich and elegant Brunello, both in structure and in olfactory expression. Brilliant ruby red with garnet-colored reflections, on the nose the aroma is sweet and fruity, the hints of fresh red fruit stand out, which combine perfectly with the more complex notes of licorice and pipe tobacco. The structure is powerful, and the palate is pleasantly enveloped by a consistent tannic texture, well balanced by a pleasant acidity. Extremely persistent with excellent aging potential.

Critic Ratings

James Suckling Review - Rated 94:

Solid, showing dusty spices, dried citrus and an earthy, savory undertone. Traditional in style, with tight tannins and a nice grilled-orange character. Very well-balanced, supple and composed. Try from 2027.

Wine Spectator Review - Rated 94:

Offers power in the form of dense tannins and intense flavors of black cherry, blackberry and black currant. Iron, tomato leaf and Mediterranean scrub notes add depth as this expands midpalate and through the detailed finish. Best from 2029 through 2046. 7,100 cases made, 40,800 cases imported.

Jeb Dunnuck Review - Rated 93:

The 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino Castello Banfi displays a youthful garnet/red hue and is spiced with aromas of clove, incense, dried cherries, redcurrants, and pine. Medium-bodied, it’s approachable yet nicely structured, with refreshing acidity, ripe tannins, and a clean mineral finish. It should offer a wide window for enjoyment over the next 10 years. Drink 2026-2036.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Review - Rated 93:

Supporting good concentration and volume, the Castello Banfi 2021 Brunello di Montalcino checks all the boxes for the vintage, reflecting careful blending and cellar precision in a warm year. There is richness and freshness, with layers of plum, blackcurrant and sweet spice. The tannins are well managed. The wine delivers exactly what is expected without pushing beyond its stylistic boundaries. This is a fine choice for near- to mid-term drinking, and like many new releases in this portfolio, it shows a high level of alcohol at 15.5%. Production totals 490,000 bottles.
